Earlier this month we held an event on the Bellfield Social Housing Project site for the first sod turn, signifying the commencement of construction. Joined by Specialist Homelessness Organisation Launch Housing who are leading the project and representatives from Banyule City Council, Homes Victoria, the Victorian Government, Wurundgeri and many more we gathered to commemorate the beginning of what will be a life changing contribution to the community housing crisis.

Together we took part in a traditional Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony as we acknowledged the traditional custodians of the land and paid our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We also heard some very touching words of Wurundjeri Elders and key partners of the development as we celebrated this special milestone. 

Once completed, the Bellfield Social Housing Project will provide a place to call home for those who need it most in our community. Sitting amongst the new Community Hub and the relocated Community Garden which are nearing completion, this four-level social housing building will be a vital addition to the community of Bellfield.
